Perhaps it’s unfair of me to assume that the road to yet another hollywood divorce started yesterday in a medieval castle near Rome, but as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes tied the knot I’m left wondering how long this latest star marriage will last.
It’s not unfair to point out that very few Hollywood marriages have ‘Hollywood endings.’ Cruise himself has already made two attempts at the ‘happily ever after’ and must surely be hoping that this time it truly is a match made in scientology heaven. But given the high attrition rate of celebrity marriages surely even the bravest gambler might be reluctant to play his hand on this surviving ’till death due us part?
Cruise is a devout member of the Church of Scientology, formed by failed science-fiction write L. Ron Hubbard. That fact might work well for the ‘A list’ couple as it is a teaching of Scientology that married couples should not go to sleep at night without resolving any conflict they may have had during the day.
The truth is though, that regardless of religious beliefs, celebrity marriages usually end in celebrity divorces. Recently ‘Bratney’ Spears added her marriage with Kevin Federsomething to the long list of bitter celebrity marital failures. What makes the Spears failure even more awful is the rumor that her soon to be ex-husband has threatened to inflict a four hour video of the couple ‘doing it trailer park stylee’ on the world if Ms Spears doesn’t make a suitably generous settlement offer.
While I can’t imagine a similarly trashy affair happening to ‘TomKat’ in the future, it’s surely not entirely out of order to start speculating as to when the newly weds will cite “irreconcilable differences” as reason for the almost inevitable sad ending to their fairy tale marriage. After all, under such intense scrutiny from the media how much of a fairy tale could such a marriage be anyway?

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes begin their road to divorce

For the record, I’ll state that I think if the couple get to 2010 they’ll have done well. But if I were to place a bet, I’d say 2009, and if you want me to be really cruel in my specifics I’ll say May 17th, 2009.
So come on, place your bets ladies and gentlemen… When do you think TomKat will expire?

I like 2009, I think the rumors will begin the end of 2008, and it will be solidified in 2009.
I’m going to take this a step further and say that I think Katie initiates the divorce. Every picture I see her in with him makes me kind of sad. I feel like she’s trying to fake a smile. And he seems to not really be in touch with reality so, I think she’ll divorce him.

really it’s not just Hollywood marriages. People don’t take marriage as seriously as they should nowadays. It’s sad really. I just think he’s too old for her.

I’m not a believer in the ‘too old’ idea. However we do live in a throw away society where even marriage is now deemed as dispensable. It’s very sad indeed. We package everything up so nice then throw it all away when we’re done.

Well… yeah! I don’t expect it to last either! But then… I’m not so sure Nicole Kidman’s (Tom’s ex Mrs) recent marriage to Keith Urban will last either.
The very fact that we’re discussing this shows what kinds of pressures celebrity must endure. The weight of public scrutiny is an obviously rather heavy cross to bear. Being Famous is a crock really! Give me beautiful Average Joe anonymity any day please! :)
On the subject of “marriage” as an institution – yeah well I AM married – 17 years to my first husband actually *grin* – but hec! If I lived my live over – I’d not get “married” with a certificate, a church wedding or a ring. These are outward signs of commitment for sure – but they can mean nothing once the honeymoon is over and couples must face the daily argy-bargy of relating to each other with grace and fairness. It takes a lot of love and a whole lot more dedication to making a marriage WORK than any other kind of relationship. And divorce is “cheap” now (with apologies to “specialagentbarbie” for that line – I just meant that its easy to do in the greater scheme of things – not financially so. Oh and I so totally agree that Mr Cruise don’t like his girls to be “better than him” ;))
So anyway… Paul Newman and Joanna Woodward have made it “work” apparently – but then they aren’t showing up on every second trashy magazine cover are they?
Whatever!

I’m thinking it’ll last til at least 2010 …but only because Tommie has probably got longevity bonuses written into Katie’s employment contract.

You can’t knock up someone like Katie Holmes and NOT marry her. If you thought Tom’s approval rating was pulling a GW Bush already, I think not marrying Katie would be another black mark on a star that can’t afford any more tarnish. And no one wants to get married because the guy feels obligated, do they? I guess time will tell whether this is actually the case with these two.

To be fair I think TC couldn’t care less about his ‘approval rating.’ He’s not running for office and his movie always do well, so good boy/bad boy he’ll sell.

I will take a HUGE leap and say summer of 2016. Why? because it is just before the 10yr mark. Tom did that with Nicole. They spilt 9 yrs and 10months I believe. After 10yrs of marriage everything is split down the middle (at least in California).

I’ll be surprised if they make it 3 years…sad but typical,as you point out in your post.
The paper, to answer your question, is made from recycled paper – you soak paper overnight, run it through the blender and then use the resulting pulp to make…..more paper:) It’s cool paper, though. All nubby and natural looking. You can put dried flowers in it, stuff like that – all very “earthy”.

Not true, MI3 didn’t do nearly as well as expected due to his bad press this year.

I don’t really read showbiz news, so I have missed all his bad press I guess. Bad press for what I am now wondering?
