So I’m sitting here looking out of the window at a miserable rain drenched afternoon here at Manchester airport. My flight to Chicago was due to take off hours ago, but there was a problem with the plane so along so I found a quite part of terminal 3 where to sit and relax while I wait for someone to bolt the wings back on the plane.
This delay does of course stuff up my onward connection to Portland. I was due to touch down in Portland tonight at around dinner time, but if I manage to get a flight to Portland from Chicago today I won’t be in Portland until around midnight. Bearing in mind I got up at 5:45am today and UK time is 8 hours ahead of Pacific time, that is one long day, especially to be on a plane.
Now… who wants to take a wager on whether my luggage gets lost in transit also?

*Comforts* I hate planes. I’m not particularly afraid of flying (especially since I’ve been doing it for almost 20 yrs now), but something always seems to go wrong. What always makes me feel better is one of those HUGE toblerone bars they sell at the duty-free. =D I hope you can find something that helps.

They couldn’t loose your luggage again…could they??? You are making memories! Have a great time.

i hate to say it but your luggage will most probably be lost… I think its an art for them to beef up their ‘benefits’.. and that’s why its so hard to find it afterwards. It’s not that they dont know where your luggage is, its that they dont want you to know where your luggage is… This is my conspiracy theory number 8.

Well folks I didn’t make it to Portland. I’ll be staying the the Hilton here at Chicago airport, but c’mon, I’m in Chicago so despite the fact that in UK terms it’s 3am I am going out into the city tonight! Heading for the John Hancock I think after I eat something here at the hotel (all paid for by the airline.)
You know, regardless of the delay, this feels like part of the adventure and I’m smiling. I’m in Chicago, of course I’m smiling – I love Chicago. Tonight this city belongs to me!

It’s just nice to know that there are more unique individuals like yourself out here that do not fall in line with all the fucking “robots.” the picture of the rainy day in manchester airport is a great mind trip

Looks like you lucked out in, a way (except for the luggage inevitability, that is). Enjoy Chicago!

Simon, what you need to do is put on all your clothes that you plan to wear while you’re here on before you leave home and put everything else in a carry-on bag. Then when you get here buy a cheap $10 duffle bag to put your clothes in. Give me a call when you get to Portland. I lost your cell number.

Chicago is definitely a city that brings a smile… albeit a frosty smile ;-)
