For those of you who play guitar, or any instrument, or indeed just enjoy music, check out the video below of a guitarist by the name of Andy McKee playing a track called “Drifting.”
Andy McKee is a 28 year old guitarist who has been playing guitar since he was 13. But the video above shows him playing the instrument “fingerstyle” which I have to say I had neither heard of or seen done before.
Perhaps this style of playing guitar is common, but I was very impressed when I saw the video. It’s not just a show off video either, the music itself is very good. Andy has a few CD’s out and you can watch him perform other tracks on iTunes, including a rather dodgy rendition of Toto’s classic track “Africa”, but we’ll forgive him for that.

LOL!!! I know how you feel Edith. Sometimes I see some design work and I feel like I would be incapable of coming up with anything that good. :-)

Simon, thanks for directing us to this guy. I enjoyed his composition. Actually, it reminded me of stuff that I have heard on Windham Hill records. Particularly there was a guitarist named Michael Hedges, who did some amazing stuff on the acoustic guitar. Also, it reminded me of Phil Keggy’s Wind and the Wheat album, or perhaps it was his Beyond Nature album. Anyways, the legend surrounding Keaggy is that Jimi Hendrix was once asked, “How does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?” and Jimi responded by saying, “I don’t know you will have to ask Phil Keaggy that question.” Phil was initially known for doing some incredible work on the electric guitar, and later in his career he branched out and started to explore the acoustic guitar, wherein he did some pretty trippy stuff with fingers all over the frets. Oh, and by the way, he is a Christian, but don’t look down on him Simon, he has got genuine talent.

Anthony you great big doofus, just because he was a Christian would not mean I would look down on him. You’re a Christian and I think you’re cool, your white mini-van would be far more reason to lose you ‘cool’ points, but your faith is real an very un-Falwell like, so you’re cool as far as I’m concerned. So as long as this guitarist guy isn’t a right wing Christian idiot, then I would have no problem.
I’ll maybe look him up on iTunes.

Phil is the kind of Christian who would probably not agree with Falwell’s political views, but would play at Falwell’s university (Liberty). I think he is an Evangelical, and some of his music is praise oriented, but other music he’s done is more an exploration of music itself. So, though I no you don’t look down on Christians as a prejudice, I want to let you know that some of the stuff Keaggy does might hit you the wrong way. Besides, it’s fun to take a shot at you every now and then. And, deep down you know you want a white-mini van.

White Mini-van racing. That would be fun. I’d love to throw a white mini-van around a race track, tires screetching and all :-)

Maybe we could start an organization for Nascar wives who would race mini-vans, and they would get paid more because their vehicles would have more advertising space. (Is this response somewhat sexist?)

Well Dah, that is totally sexist. Women earning more than men! Come on!!
