It’s Monday morning, the whole week is ahead of you and you’ve probably got a ton of work to do, right? In that case then it’s the perfect time to play Asteroids!
This is a classic game and like so many other classic games it is, of course, classically pointless. The idea is to shoot the asteroids and not get hit by any of the rocks in the process.
I used to play this on the BBC Micro way back wen BBC Micro computers were the standard computer for every teenage boy. Not being an altogether standard teenage boy I didn’t have one, but my friend Olly did so I set up camp in his bedroom and played Asteroids, Revs, Thrust, and Elite until my high school education was in total ruins! Ah yes, those were the days!
Click ‘play game’ to begin, then use the space bar to fire and the arrow keys to move.

yeah this game is pointless… its frustrating knowing you will never win!! surely that frustrates you…. surely. Play something like mario and supermario world…. its just so fulfilling! you save a princess for goodness sakes. :)

Alright, you got me. Thanks for responding regarding my Xanga comment question. I have to be honest. I’m a little disappointed that QBert is not on your list of games. And while I’m on the subject of old games, any chance you can get a hold of the original Star Wars arcade game? Goodness knows I pumped enough quarters into that game as a kid!

I don’t think I was a nerd, but I did like a select few computer games. Maily though I loved riding my bike at speeds that terrified others. When I crashed (and I often wiped out) those accidents nearly always resulted in a ride in an ambulance!
Then I discovered girls and everything changed! LOL!

I just read a comment you left for Topher about how Christians are a little too much into their culture; I think the term was “Christianese”. You are absolutely right. (Or I suppose I could say, “Testify Brother! Give me an Amen!! Glory!!”) Ug.
I was delighted when my church had an entire series on being relevant. This is needed in most churches I think.
Anyway, you might be interested in checking out a guy names Kris Volloton. ( ibethel.org ) He’s one of the pastors for this church out in California and his podcasts are great.
Asteroids consumed too many hours when I was younger…then I met Contra and it was a lost cause.

The trouble with the Christian approach of withdrawing from culture (muddle of words there) is that it really is counter productive. People like to identify with groups and unfortunately there isn’t a lot of ‘cool’ associated with being a Christian from those on the outside looking in.
Christians make themselves such easy targets sometimes! You might have a missed a post I wrote a while back, but this post my be of interest to you.

Oh, and BTW…I also used to ride my bike at break-neck speeds. My childhood home was at the bottom of an impressive hill. All my friends and I used to walk our bikes up as far as the sidewalks would take us (we weren’t allowed to cross the street) and ride like a bat out of hell back down. Swallowed many a bug that way screaming my lungs out on the way down.

Hahahaha Now *that’s* funny! Biggest thing I managed to swallow was a moth. Giant, fluttering wings in your mouth just feels wrong.
