Ok, so maybe last week’s trip down video game memory lane was pretty dull with Pong, so how about the classic shoot-em-up game of Space Invaders? Come on, put work on hold for a few sneaky minutes to play a round or two.
Who doesn’t like Space Invaders? Surely this has to be the alpha game of all video games? Yes I know that it’s very basic but Space Invaders was the seed from which all video gaming grew. Apparently it was created back in 1978 by a Japanese guy called Tomohiro Nishikado.

how do you play?! I pushed every key on my mouse and keyboard and I can’t move or shoot anything.

Click the words ‘Play Space Invaders’ then use the left and right arrows and space bar to fire.

It took me a while to figure out how to play – then I got tired of it and self-destructed at 9000 points. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, though.

so far a high score of 23080. but i think i could do better.. question of the day, green baracades blessing or curse? i cant decide if i like them or not. i think i like the two on the outside but not the two in the middle. the two in the middle kind of impede a shoot and run. you’ll jet across the screen shooting and then it’ll get in the way….maybe that should be my new strategy- eliminate baracades then eliminate aliens. hmm

sooo at what point does one win this game? every time i play i get a little farther but it would appear never far enough.. is there an end?

Aw bless.
There is no end Rachel. The aliens just keep getting faster and faster until they eventually kill you.. and I think there’s a lesson for us all in there.
People lost whole days of their life to this kind of game. I know I did.

there’s no end.. oh my. i’ve never played a game with no end before… its kind of dismal… no matter what i do I will lose.
i guess the gratification is in highest scores? Kind of a, ‘well, we’re all going to die but if aliens attacked i’d out live the rest of you’ sort of thing? lol but is this so different from everyday life? doesnt everyone at some point meet their ‘alien’ if you will… :) so profound.. i really must stop myself.
