Happy New Year everyone! It’s a little belated I know, but upon returning to the UK I’ve been sick in bed and I’m only now emerging from that. I can’t remember the last time I was so ill. So you see, while 2008 might already be well under way for you, it’s just beginning for me.
I took the picture above on the last day of 2007 while at Pensacola Beach in Florida. I didn’t expect to be in Florida that day at all, but I was visiting Susan from Mississippi over the New Year and we were driving to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to meet up with some of her friends when I saw a sign for Pensacola Florida. Susan explained that it was not that much further so we went there just so I could say I went there!
I wrote the message in the sand specifically for all of you, though I hope it brought a smile to anyone else who might have happened upon it. I had planned to post it on Jan 1st but time the sickness got the better of me.
I’m not really one for new year resolutions, but how about you? What do you want from 2008? Whatever it is I hope that this year is a great one for all of us. So once again, as late as it might be, Happy New Year everyone!

Thats cute. I wish I had been somewhere warm on New Years Eve!
I have been sick too. Thought it was a cold, but it has lasted over 3 weeks, so pretty sure it was the flu. I went to bed like 15 mins before midnite. Were you in TX at all this time?

No, I wasn’t in Texas the whole time. (Obviously I was in Florida for part of New Years Eve.) I was there for xmas before heading to New Orleans, then Mississippi, and onto Gulf Shores, Alabama, for New Years Eve. That’s when we went to Florida because we were right there. Houston was actually quite warm for the most part, though it did cool off just before I left for New Orleans which was very warm indeed!

I forget that the water is so beautiful in Florida. Not exactly the same color in the Gulf near Houston. Still, my thinking is that everyone should take advantage of their proximity to the beach – regardless of how blue or brown the water is. Go beach.
Happy New Year! I actually, don’t have any resolutions. I plan to continue on the current course and hopefully notice when the plan needs adjusting.

Thats what I like about Houston….its usually warm. It was cold as hell up here. We usually have wet winters and the occasional “dusting” of snow. Pretty miserable.

Nice picture, Simon! Happy 2008 to you, too. I hope you’re feeling better, and I’m sad I didn’t get to see you when you were in H-town.

It was great sharing the year’s end and beginning with you! My resolution is to live like a tourist all the time – always appreciating my suroundings as if experiencing them for the first time. Of course, you are always welcome to join me!
Glad you are feeling better, finally!

Happy New Year Simon and hope you are feeling better now.
My new years resolution is to finally gain the extra stone in weight that I have been trying to put on since August!

ryc: Geee, where were you when I was single? j/k
Actually I think there is e-harmony or match.com for this kind of stuff. And it is just totally bizarre to invite someone to your myspace. Then I started thinking…..he prob wanted to add me as a “friend” so my pic would be on his frontpage. Bizarre indeed!

Happy new year, Simon!
I want to exercise more in 2008 and maybe even get fit enough to run another (my 5th) marathon. But we’ll see.

Almost everyone I know was sick over the holidays, me included. I’m glad you’re better. I love your writing in the sand. I found myself wondering how you were able to keep it so neat. I’d have it all muddied up and have to keep moving down the beach to find a clear canvas. It would probably take me about 5 or 6 tries to get it the way I wanted it for my picture. Yours looks great!

Happy New Year! No specific resolutions (they only get broken, then the guilt settles in!). Your phrase ‘to live like a tourist’ sounds good to me. Happy Birthday for Friday! :-)

Actually Sharon, that was Susan’s line. She wrote, “My resolution is to live like a tourist all the time.” And I have to say that sounds good to me too!

Love this picture. My resolution should be to catch up on xanga quicker. Augh for the good old days when I did it on the day I received them. Blessings Simon!
