366 PICTURES – THE UNSEEN – DAY 6
I love the smell of bacon in the morning.
Strictly speaking, this picture isn’t one of the unseen photographs from 366 pictures. Those of you who followed that blog through 2012 might remember the picture of the cute puppy from the Philippines. Well, this photograph was very nearly the picture of that day.
I was in the Philippines travelling with my friend when I spotted this pigs head. It was quietly roasting away in a shack by the side of a road in the rustic town of Coron in the province of Palawan.
Such sights are not uncommon across Asia, but the expression of this particular pig caught my eye. It’s as if the former four-legged animal is looking at you and saying in a tired and rather defeated tone, “If I’m honest with you, I’d have to say I didn’t see this coming.”
Yolande thought the picture was disgusting. She would turn away every time I tried to show it to her. So when I asked for her to help me choose between the cute puppy and the severed pigs head she had no hesitation choosing the puppy that eventually became the picture of the day.
When it came down to the final choice I chose the picture of the puppy. I think I kind of sold out to the crowd pleaser of a picture in this case. i think most people would choose a nice picture of a puppy over a severed pigs head, so I wonder, what does it say about me that this was such a hard choice? Hmm, lets not dwell on that question. Instead, why not go and cleanse your visual palate by looking at the picture of a cute puppy.

The pig’s head is disgusting to look at BUT make it into a salad and it’s delicious.

I think the photo is awesome; but what I really liked was your comment: “If I’m honest with you, I’d have to say I didn’t see this coming.”
Perhaps your photo obliged him a little notoriety that he would never have had to begin with… that and he probably fed a hungry child…
Thanks for keeping it interesting!

@ Yolande – “Anything with a backbone that can face the sun,” right? ;-)
@ Susan – I’m glad you liked the pic, but I wonder, was the puppy picture I used better or just cuter?
