WHY BLOG?
The reason I blog is purely because I enjoy writing and sharing a small part of my life online. Through online writing I’ve managed to reach out and make connections with people I might otherwise never have met, and while some may feel that is pointless, I enjoy the randomness of such connections. Blogging is also a great way of communicating within a small group of people who may be otherwise difficult to stay in touch with.
For example, my Xanga blog enabled me to keep up to day with the lives and thoughts of friends in Texas, some 5000 miles from me back here in the UK. Indeed, had it not been for the blogs I’m fairly sure that those friendships would have faded away. But the interaction of blogging and commenting on others blogs enabled us to all take part in ongoing discussions.
HOW OLD IS THIS BLOG?
This blog actually got off the ground in the early summer of 2006, however there are posts dating back as early as September 2004. These have been imported from my old Xanga.com blog. I have, however, been writing what amounts to a blog since 1997 in the form of my ongoing Meanwhile website.
WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?
As much as it might look like a lot of my life is available online this is somewhat of an illusion. While you could learn a great deal about me from reading this blog I don’t write anything that I wouldn’t be comfortable discussing with a friend at a bus stop or in line for a movie. Yes it’s personal, but in reality, it’s not that personal.

HOW DOES THIS BLOG WORK?
This blog is powered by freely available blogging software called Wordpress which is, according to the wordpress website, “a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability.”
WHO DESIGNED THE LOOK AND FEEL OF THIS BLOG?
The asthetics of this particular blog is a ’skin’ (applied to the Wordpress blogging software) called ‘HobNob.’ ‘HobNob’ is a very heavily modified version of popular wordpress skin Fast track by Sadish. My friend Joelle Lefeuvre and I created it one evening while we drank cups of tea and ate hobnob cookies.
