A young boy points his camera into the mouth of a crocodile in India taking a daring shot as another photographer takes a photograph of the pair face to face.
I can’t tell you much about this picture, only that it is the work of Sharad Haksar, a photographer from India. I saw the photograph this weekend while browsing magazines in Borders. It’s an amazing shot that captures the bravery and innocence of youth in a frighteningly dangerous fashion. But after an extensive search online, I can find no more detail about the picture so the story behind it will, for the time being at least, remain a mystery.

We live in South Texas on the Gulf of Mexico and there are alligators. They look really big and slow, but they are so fast! And the sound they make is really scary. Amazing picture.

That picture blew my mind! I’m still freaking out just thinking of the danger that child was in. Maybe someone was nearby with a gun, ready to shoot the crocodile. If I was the photographer taking the picture of the boy with the camera I would have skipped the shot and grabbed the boy and run.

Thanks Ravi. I new that much, but what I’d like to know is more about the story behind the pic. Like who is the boy, was he unharmed and what was the photographer thinking! :-)

The boy and the crocodile were shot seperately and put together later on photoshop.

Ah! I see. I’ve never done that but I should play with that because the result in this image is arresting! So tell me Ravi, how did you know that?

Wow–still an amazing picture, even if the boy and croc were shot separately.
Speaking of photojournalism (we are now), it annoys me when a sensational picture/story behind a picture takes precedence over human life.
To be fair, however, photojournalists have also provided those disturbing and arresting pictures that shattered prejudices and uncovered inhumane activity.
Sorry, random thoughts. ;-)

I live in the same city as Sharad does and know his work. It has also been selected for 2006 Communication Arts Advertising Annual

Fair point that Rachel, but like you say, sometimes a picture so shocks the world that it forces change. Change that might not have come if the picture hadn’t been taken. You night be interested in also reading this post which includes an utterly shocking picture which shook the world and so disturbed the photographer that he took his own life.
