It’s been over 4 years after President Bush stood aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln under a huge “Mission Accomplished” banner a declared victory in the Iraq war. Since that declaration 3659 American troops have been killed along with a far higher number of Iraqi people, and the country has descended into civil war.
So what now?

i am totally laughing at this comment you left on Renata’s site:
“Put it like this, if a friend of mine called me up and simply rattled off some lines they has said 100,000 times before, I’d hang up on them!”
that is awesome!!

Re: The witty tagline – you are totally right. when i took that pic of val, i told her to hold the avocados in a suggestive way. but her dad was with us, so…. hehe
And about your comment about my comment about your comment on renata’s site: we used to do that when singing hymns at church! instead of “When the roll is called up yonder” we’d sing “When the bowl is called a blender”. we had all sorts of variations to all the hymns and we’d try to sing them really, really loudly. NO ONE ever said anything to us. they are all spacing out. looking back, some of those words are really great but too bad no one thinks about them anymore.

We will have a new prez in almost 12 mos.
Its going to be pretty boring election. Besides my son and I no one I have asked in my neck of the woods even knows who’s running. Its like “Isnt that OSAMA guy runnin'”? Insert rolling eyes here….
Kinda reminds me of that South Park episode…. South Park elem is having an election for a new Mascot. The choices were A Giant Douche or A Turd Sandwich. Whats the difference? =)
Sorry kinda got off the subject here. Just waiting for Ol’ Jr. to ride off into the sunset.

I don’t envy President Clinton or President Guliani, whichever one of those it is. “That Osama guy” might have an easy go of it in 5 years after he’s been the VP for a while.

HA lol…I think he would have to change his name. And to be honest prob his race. Same w/Hilary. Unfortunately our country in my opinion can’t handle that for at least 10 years. Oh wait 8 yrs :)

Maybe so Barbie, but the alternative is another Republican in office and it’s questionable as to whether the country could stomach that either.
Either way I wonder who will do what with Bush’s idiot war on terror. T.W.A.T (The War Against Terror) has become a ball and chain for America as it was always destined to be, but now simply withdrawing from Iraq seems an awful and cowardly thing to do, but staying? That doesn’t seem brave or smart either. Bush has made a terrible bed for the next President to have nightmares in.

LOL…TWAT. It has the same stigma as the P-word.
Yes, agreed on the nightmare on the mess the new Prez has to take on. Hmmmm maybe thats why we dont have any good canidates? No one wants to take on this crap for at least another 4 yrs. I will prob vote Republican….my bf thinks I am crazy to vote for my party of choice. But I am not one who will vote on popularity or change my voews just b/c he’s not popular. We need good leadership who will clean up the mess of the “War President” With a good mixture of the Cabinet just to keep things “even”
Really at this point we have a least a decade of clean up no matter who is in there. And the war has gotten us no where accept debt. We have alot more worries than being a finger pointer and The World Punisher. Life continued on after 9/11 and I thin k the more Allies we have the better chance we have on the control of World Terrorism. But what do I know? I am just a voter in Tejas.

Okay Micheal, nice link, but your point was what exactly? Ron Paul is your plan for Iraq? Send Ron Paul there to govern them? It’s a long shot, but I guess it could would.

Everyone here seems to be pretty liberal here, so it may be a waist of my time commenting. It seems to me that Bush is getting a lot of flack for doing the right thing. It should have happened sooner but at least the troop surge is happening and working. If the U.S. pulled out I have feeling the death toll would be incredible, maybe even close to a million. I had a feeling and got the impression from democrats (who all but a few voted for the war) and republicans that this would be a long war. I hope it ends soon, but it takes a long time to form a government that can fend for itself. Japan took a long time after WWII, the U.S. took a long time to form a government when it was originally established. I hope we get a president who understands that.

The war was a mistake. Bush himself has all but admitted that really. My question though is what now? Withdrawing is a bad idea, staying is a bad idea. The US presence there is locally unwelcome, but how much worse would the US be perceived if it left and let another post Iraq war bloodbath to ensue.

yeah ron paul! i think michael was suggesting vote in ron paul and have his foreign policy in action in iraq… which is basically to withdraw troops asap. The idea is that we are a catalyst to the chaos in the country. Our presence only signals more aggression… so to continue to stay does not solve anything. Michael if i am wrong, feel free to correct me. :)

So Rupaul, sorry, Ron Paul is suggesting that after completely fucking up Iraq the United States should simply down tools and beat a hasty retreat!? My word! I guess that’s as good a plan as any in reality, but it sounds bad and also pretty much admits the fact that the United States has lost the Iraq war.
I still think that Bush should be impeached because lets face it when Clinton was getting a blowjob under the desk, thousands of soldiers and citizens of a foriegn land didn’t have to pay for that mistake with their lives, not to mention the fact that a quick Monica blowjob also doesn’t cost the American tax payer $200 million dollars a day either!

That is what he’s suggesting… and while it sounds horrible, do we know the alternative is any better? He compares this situation a lot to vietnam… and our presence there really only heightened violence as it seems is happening in iraq. to be truthful, i really dont know have any idea what would be best, just what some people are spouting.
leave or stay, both will have consequences and unless something really smart happens, i fear those consequences will be blamed on whoever takes over making the wrong decision. Its unfortunate that we dont have the ability to see ahead in time and know which one decision would truly be the worst, but we dont. i and i think a lot of american, probably a lot of the world, really feel helpless in the matter. what can we do? organize mass petitions? already done.. picket outside the white house.. its also being done and not having any effect. Go to iraq and help? cant figure out how.
I think there’s a lot of desire to help this situation in america if we were presented with opportunity and a good plan. While the president is making a lot of mistakes, if he were to just admit them and come to the people for help, i think he’d be surprised at the resources that would suddenly pop up. If we were to really take in the refugees needing a home, and show that we are willing to do anything to bring peace to their country- whether they want a democracy or a republic or neither- i think a lot could change.
BUT that’s really foolish talk. i expect an ideal world and every year of my life i find out just how unideal it is. Things are never that simple… but i do know that microwaving nations doesnt work. You cant change a country’s mindsets with guns and bullets.

I saw a bumper sticker once that read “Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity.”
It a source of some sadness to me that a politician can no longer be honest. Failure is not an option in modern day politics it seems and that’s a shame because we there is a great wealth of knowledge to be gained from the mistakes we make.

@Simon:
I was simply pointing to a candidate that wants to pull the United States back from foreign entanglements.
Personally, I think it would be rather enlightening to the rest of the world to realize what it would be like WITHOUT the US sticking our big noses into everything.
You know, genocide right on European soil, stuff like that.
As to Iraq being a failure… I believe it is pretty bad, but in terms of death, it pales in comparison to past conflicts…
As to Clintoon vs Bush, Simon, Rwanda? Kosovo? Any of those places ring a bell?
Shit happens whether you do something (Iraq) or you don’t do something (Rwanda/Kosovo)….
@Bob:
You are right. Germany/Japan weren’t rebuilt in a few months… It took decades!
However, there was a national identity with the Germans/Japanese that does not exist in Iraq.
Overall, I have always stated that going into Iraq BEFORE finishing our business in Afghanistan was a mistake. I still think this is true.
Anyway, I ramble and I’m hungry… I’ll check back later.

I was encouraged to see 58,000 American troops deployed last week to Burma to overthrow the countries military tyrant leaders who kill untold numbers of their people. President Bush was at least consistent in invading Burma in an effort to liberate those people and bring freedom to that area. The deployment and quick act of the President silences those who dismissed his claims that the war in Iraq had nothing to do with oil and was indeed a war to “free the people of Iraq from an evil dictator.” Well done President Bush!
I am a little worried though. With the thousands of troops still in Zimbabwe after overthrowing the genocidal President Robert Mugabe, as well as the thousands of troops in Afghanistan after overthrowing the Taliban, and those also looking out for the common man in Iraq, might the American’s be a little over-stretched now? I don’t know about you all, but I am nervous that being the huge humanitarian he is, President Bush might decide to take on China over their record on human rights!
