Someone call the style police – there’s been a fashion violation!
This is a little thing, but take a close look at the picture of Barack Obama at the top of his website. Is it just me or does he look like a scruffy binge drinking broker to you too?
It’s probably something only I would notice, but someone working on the Obama website has clearly photoshopped a red tie to the President Elect – but why?
Does wearing a tie make him appear more honest, serious, or trustworthy? If so then why not just use a picture of him wearing a tie rather than some fumbled photoshop job that makes him look like he gets style tips from London’s mayor, Boris Johnson.
In fact, the closer I look at this picture the more I’m thinking that he wasn’t even wearing a jacket in the original either! If you look at the website you’ll even see that the bottom right part of his suit is missing and what’s going on with his shirt.
I did a quick Google to see if I was the only nerd in the world who has mentioned this, and it would appear that I am. However, perhaps unsurprisingly there is an entire website out there devoted to such gaffs. ‘Photoshop Disasters’ features some funny and truly head scratching Photoshop gaffs. I’ll submit the Obama photoshop disaster, which I suppose isn’t so much a disaster as it is an Obamanation… groan.

Ouch, that is pretty bad.
They’ve changed it up now – though I think the Obama website often runs several photos in rotation. There’s still some weird photoshopping going on, but nothing that atrocious.

I have been saying this ever since he was elected to the Illinois state senate that he is either a Muslim or a Muslim sympathizer. Think of it. While Hebrews believe that to be Jewish the mother must be Jewish; Islam, on the other hand, believes if the father is Muslim than sons are Muslim. His middle name, Hussein, is given only to sons whose father is a Muslim.

I read some of the above responses, and I thought to myself, “Surely, someone is putting on a character. Someone is purposely playing the part of a redneck stereotype.” So, at risk of being taken in by a game, I am gonna reply.
Regarding Obama’s slip, I think there are any number of reasons he could have made a slip like that, and none of them the result of him being Muslim. He could have been reading about the Muslim religion, which would be a wise thing for politician to do, who is a leader in a society that is becoming more pluralistic. He could have been thinking about his Father and the influence or heritage he has received from him. I could go on, but the point is, he has professed himself to be a Xian, and in American culture, like many cultures of the West, religion is a voluntary matter of self identification. This means he is what he says he is, not who his father, mother, you, or I say he is.
Beyond this, as Wilvo said quoting Gen. Powell, “so what if he was a Muslim?” It is reported that Martin Luther, the father of the Xian Reformation, once said, “I would rather be governed by a competent Muslim than an incompetent Christian.” The point is, in a democratic society, where the public/political sphere is by principle secular, one’s faith or religious choice should not disqualify them from political office.
Now, if the persons I am responding to are not playing a character, and are expressing their genuine view, I realize that none of what I say will be meaningful, since such persons don’t actually engage in thoughtful discussions. Otherwise, I am likely preaching to the choir here.

I saw the longer interview too to the one Mighty Word linked to. He is a terrible speaker without a teleprompter. My high school freshmen have been trained to speak better than he. This just adds fodder to those of us who laugh at his comment of having visited 57 states in the campaign. He was a poor choice for office.

I find it incredible that some are having a go at Obama for making a slip or for how he speaks without a teleprompter. Do a search on Youtube for some of Bush’s mistakes. Obama has made some slip ups, Bush, McCain and Palin are just plain dumb. Bush was a C student, McCain graduated 5th from bottom of his class (out of 889) and Palin went to five colleges in six years before finally graduating at the University of Ohio. Obama on the other hand got a BA from Columbia and his law degree from Harvard.

No one can judge who is a true Christian except God. Get off your judgmental, holier than thou, butts and look at the truth. What facts, what evidence do you have that Obama is any more or any less Christian than any one else or any other politician? Obama gave up an opportunity for a six figure salary when he graduated from college (unlike MaCain, near the bottom of his class) to work for the poor. I don’t think it’s correct to dismiss McCain as “just plain dumb.” I also think that it is a mistake to measure the intelligence of a person by academic test scores. I think it’s quite unfair and irrelevant to cite McCain’s poor graduation report when the man has put a lifetime between that time and now.
I’m not afraid to admit that my academic scores at school were poor, but I would attribute that to my general incompatibility to the mass education system that failed to recognize or nurture the talents I had.

In response to ‘Think free’ I’m surprised that someone who can rightly point out that nobody can judge who is a true Christian or not can in the next paragraph write that he is “not a good Christian.” What the heck is a good Christian?
Obama’s religion should be of little consequence because ALL religion should be of little consequence in the business of running a country that prides itself on being multi-cultural.
However, for those of you who are interested in his religious opinions you should read a 2004 interview that Obama gave to Chicago Sun Times columnist, Cathleen Falsani, in which he talks about his faith.

Lucy – At risk of drawing down fire upon myself, I disagree with your characterization of Evangelicals. So you know where I am coming from, I don’t generally identify myself as an Evangelical, and probably for the reasons that prompted you to characterize them as you did, but here I am.
Basically, your comment seems ironic as you obviously value intelligence, and people who appreciate the complexities of life, instead of people who tend to paint the world with broad strokes. And yet, you committed what was basically a hasty generalization by equating Evangelicals with the Taliban. I understand where you are coming from when you make that claim, as generally the most vocal evangelicals (the ones the media loves to give air to because it feeds into the culture wars which generates viewing interest) are the most extreme and least nuanced in how they address issues. However, if you looked at the whole of Evangelical culture and history you would see a diverse group that is quite aware of the problems of applying religious convictions to the public square, and who also value personal conscience and voluntarism when it comes to religious practice. By contrast, the Taliban is known for applying a very strict interpretation of Sharia Law, and who would not hesitate to utilize institutional power to enforce their interpretation upon society. You will of course be able to find examples of Evangelicals who are quite intolerant and narrow, and who focus on appropriating intuitional power, but I don’t think this describes the culture as a whole.
Again, I am primarily responding because your generalization about Evangelicals didn’t seem in keeping with the underlying conviction that prompted you to make your criticism. Also, to be honest, since I do own the title Evangelical, to some degree, it drives me nuts that we are represented by the crazy few who somehow dominate the media.

Anthony, I do believe that the words in the Bible are “God breathed”. I can feel it when I read the Bible. It is powerful. But I find it offensive for the right wing evangelicals to think that they are above others and that to be a Democrat or to vote non Republican is going against God.
Jesus , in my opinion, would be helping the “little people” if he were walking the earth today. He would not be on Capital Hill or Wall St. He would be under the bridges and in the shelters.

This election cycle opened my eyes to how intellectually poor many Americans are… I have to believe that the basis of this belief by so many McCain supporters is just an attempt to hide their racism behind religion, or they are just completely devoid of intelligence. You would think that the controversy involving a Christian pastor Rev. Wright would provide some clues in to the President Elect’s religious view. It is a Christian church!!!
I think the overarching concern here is obviously the education system. I echo Obama’s admonishment to American families, turn off the television, sit down with your children, and read with them, help them with their home work, and become a fully integrated cog in the education wheel of your child. If not you are going to end up with a country full of people like those who supported McCain that believe PEOTUS Obama is a Muslim.
