I have a few words.
From the perspective of the global community I feel so much better being an American at this moment. Moreover, I see Obama’s election as a watershed shift in American culture. In the least, his election goes along way toward helping America move beyond its legacy of slavery and racism, and toward helping America reflect its democratic ideals: its belief that all people, regardless of ethnicity, have genuine opportunity in our culture.
Having said all this, I want to be sober and not undermine his presidency by hanging messianic hopes on Obama. I think he is a good man, but he is just a man who is going to be working in some extremely difficult circumstances, and so I am going to be praying that God would give him an uncanny wisdom in how he conducts himself, the affairs of this country, and relations with the rest of the world.

Im very happy about this and proud of my state Texas. While the majority of the state voted for McCain, the percentage by which we did so was far less than in past years. This year it was an 11% difference and in the past two presidential elections it was 23% and 21%. No one expects Texas to vote anything but Republican because our small town population outnumbers our city population- so for results like this, it is a good day. :-D
I really respect Obama but as Anthony said, he’s not a deity or our messiah. I expect he will make mistakes. He is a man in a political party; BUT I definitely look forward to his presidency.
I am anxious to see what Bush does as well in the next few months. I imagine he’ll try to do all he can to keep us in Iraq. Interested to see what happens with the Sofa agmt.

Obama’s election ended up being a referendum on Bush as he had hoped. I’m not sure how that makes Texans any better (or worse) than anyone else who was tired of Bush voted against him by voting against McCain.
That said, this was a historical moment for our country, and congrats are certainly in order to Obama for his achievement of being the first African American elected president of the U.S. I hope and pray that he will he stand strong under the pressure that is the American presidency and not forget the promises made to us during the last 2 years.

You have no words? This is an all time first! (You not having any words I mean). You not think this is a good thing?
Personally I’m breatheing a huge sigh of relief that George Dubyah is on his way out, and it’s nice to see the first black president in the White House – I think that shows that as a planet we’ve all grown up a bit (well, most of us). But I reserve final judgement until Obama starts work.

I should perhaps qualify this then. I am delighted that “Barry” will be the next President of the United States. I’ve been following his career for a few years now. I even wrote to him a while back and urged him to run because I thought he was exactly the kind of man who should be President. To my surprise he (or more likely a staffer) responded to my email!
He has a tough job ahead for sure.

Simon, i knew you’d have something to say eventually… I read earlier today that there are people that moved here to New Zealand when Bush was re-elected and are now happily considering returning to their homeland – I think that says it all!

Well, it certainly got me going – I was up until about 5 o’clock that night, and even watched the acceptance speech. I was so relieved to see Obama get the place. I feel like I can relax.
Anyway, seeing as I can’t get a hold of you any other way, nowadays, I figured I’d let you know that Iv’e given my website (yet another) overhaul and I think you’ll be interested to know that I’ve started experimenting with Flash and Javascript.
I’m not to happy with the Home link on each page, but otherwise, I’m quite liking how it’s going atm. Figured I’d get the guy who inspired me to start webdesign’s opinion.
