Maybe you have to be a ‘Mac person’ to enjoy these new TV commercials from Apple? The Mac is represented by a cool casual looking guy and the PC is represented by a rather out of step awkward guy, nice touch Apple.
I spent a truck load of money yesterday buying a new dual core Intel 10″ flat screen iMac. I was going to get a new Mac a while back, but for one reason or another I decided to wait until the new Intel ones came out. My trusty of flat screen G4 iMac is just over three years old now, and although it’s been a great computer for all my work and stuff, it’s getting on a bit and needs to step aside and let something younger have a go.
The funny thing is that a lot of people assume that I’m some kind of computer geek. I suppose this comes from their knowledge that I work on a computer all day doing ‘internet stuff.’ Truth be told I know very little about computers, less than most people I think. I’m a Mac user, so by default my computer is built for people who don’t want to mess about with computery stuff but rather just get on and do whatever it is we want to do.
A few years ago people would ask me what the hell I used Mac for as they were apparently “going out of business soon.” Now it seems that, thanks to the iPod maybe, Apple computers are now the coolest computers to have.
I’m just happy not be be affected by the gazillion viruses, malware, spyware and other such nasties that are out there ready to take advantage of some lax PC user. Thing is, I find myself wondering if the viruses that are out there were maybe written in secret by the companies that sell virus detection software. I suppose that’s my inner cynic coming out isn’t it.

Yeah, the ads are very one-sided, but amusing nonetheless :-)

Hmmm. I’m not sure I agree in maintaining Apple’s illusion that their computers are anything special.
They look nice, sure, but I don’t agree that a Mac “gets things done” and other systems are more difficult or clumsy.
It seems to me that people decide what they are going to try and then rigidly stick with it, regardless of the alternatives. People are sticking to what they know and everyone thinks they’ve made the best choice.

Ah but Darryl, Macs are cool, and cool is sex, and sex sells. See that’s marketing. It’s how the west is won my fine friend. :-)

I’m not sure you are right Darryl. Sure people tend to stick with what they know, but some things are just easier.
This comes from Apple making the hardware and the software, it just makes for a more reliable and easy to use experience.
Take Apple’s iLife suite for example, can you do what these apps do on a PC, of course you can, can you do it as easily with the same level of intergration, no. For example, your iTunes and iPhoto collection are available within iMovie for adding your pics and tunes, a small thing, but it saves time and hassle.
Why is the less featured and more expensive iPod the best selling music player in the world? Because its dead simple to use, its integration with iTunes and its ease of use has been unbeatable, this is typical of the Apple experience.
I know numerous people that try to do video editing on a PC, its a nightmare, doing it on a Mac is SO much simpler.
